Taurus
The Sun has just gone into your sign and will form a beautiful aspect to Jupiter. They will be holding hands for quite a few weeks, at least a month, so this is the time to get active about your beliefs. Don’t doubt yourself now, this is not the time for butterflies and second thoughts. Get positive and active on your life path.
Bach Flower Essence Gentian http://amzn.to/JKqYkk

Gemini
How’s Venus treating you? Are you enjoying the flirting and light, fluffy feelings we discussed last time? Are you socialising or tackling life, holed-up in your ivory tower? Come outside and play, the planetary weather is super and we need your light-hearted input.
Bach Flower Essence Cerato http://amzn.to/JKqlHm

Cancer
I’m not sure what’s happening with Cancers at the moment. One minute they’re all cuddles and embraces, the next minute they’re worrying about finances and trying-to-make-cut-backs. TAKE A DEEP BREATH. Your financial situation is not going to sort itself out overnight, so you’re going to have to be sensible until Saturn moves…and have another hug and smile!”
Bach Flower Essence Clematis http://amzn.to/JKpg2a

Leo
On the 29th and 30th of April, the Moon will be in your sign, so write those dates on your calendar, or put them in your mobile organiser and get a few things prepared for those days. Stock up on warm fuzzy bath-time treats, some candles, maybe some incense and spend a few moments feeling the positive emotional connection that the Moon can bring you.
Bach Flower Essence Vervain  http://amzn.to/JKl2Yk
Mars is beginning to form a square aspect to Venus so be sure that you’re not getting on the wrong side of those you love. Be sure to communicate in a caring way and try and avoid your usual habit of assuming people know what you mean. Sometimes they don’t and if they don’t ask them what needs to be explained.
Bach Flower Essence Centuary http://amzn.to/IjV1SJ

Libra
You need to get back in touch with your creative self. It’s been sorely neglected and your inner creative self is crying to be released. It doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you’re using the creative part of your brain. I’ve met a lot of Libras recently who are dying to write a book or some poetry. Well! Only one way to start, get out the laptop and start writing, or if you want to be really old fashioned, get  a pen and a journal and put your thoughts to paper.
Bach Flower Essence Scleranthus http://amzn.to/JKmtWR

Scorpio
Congratulations on being so well behaved. I haven’t had a Scorpio in my private practice for weeks, so that must mean you’re all behaving yourselves and are happy bunnies! Well done also for resisting any conflicts with anyone, one of your failing faults. These are only motivated by a lack of trust, but I say learn to trust your own instincts and your life will be free of struggle.”
Bach Flower Essence Chicory http://amzn.to/JKoen3

Sagittarius
I’m sorry that the weather in the UK has been so bleak. You really don’t enjoy the dark cold days and lack of light. You can cheer yourself up by getting out the holiday brochures and choosing somewhere exotic that you’ve never been to before. How about Costa Rica? or Brazil? or maybe the little island of Funchai off the coast of Morocco? Settle your mind on something in the future and brave the cold for a few more weeks.
 Bach Flower Essence Agrimony http://amzn.to/JKjcqF
Capricorn
Try and keep your head above water now that Pluto is causing big waves to form around your soul. This is not the time to get fearful and worry about insignificant things. Concentrate only on things that matter, and leave everything else to the other signs to sort out. Your focus should be on you, and only you now.
Bach Flower Essence Mimulus http://amzn.to/JKknGr

Aquarius
You are feeling a little bleak and friend-less. If you know any Geminis, now’s the time to give them a ring and catch-up with your friendship which has become a little stale. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, so a few hours of gentle company and enjoyment in that company will do you the world of good.
Bach Flower Essence Water Violet http://amzn.to/IjWwAt

Pisces
Today is a lovely time to dream and play with the fairies. You so enjoy time spent with your inner-self, that enjoys the wonders of the Universe and your vivid imagination is now being stretched by Neptune in your sign so maybe some poetry will also go down well.
Bach Flower Essence Rock Rose http://amzn.to/IjVPXP

Aries
The Moon is just moving out of your sign today, so make the best of her healing rays. Tomorrow all you’ll have to boost you will be Uranus and Mercury and it’s quite a choppy combination. Things flying here and there, sudden announcements, sharp and fast communications. Keep your hat on firmly as it’s quite a thunderous ride.

The Birth Chart of Samuel Hahnemann Founder of Homeopathy

The Birth Chart of Samuel Hahnemann..

Samuel is the founder of Homeopathy, a system of medicine he invented in his late thirties. Hahnemann was a trained german Doctor of medicine, but didn't want to practice as other doctors did, as he disagreed with blood letting, purges and poisonous medicines, which he thought were worse than the actual diseases.

So, he spent a lot of his time translating medical tracts, books and articles as he was multilingual and well educated.
One of the books he translated was called 'A Treatise on Materia Medica' by Dr William Cullen and he faithful translated the whole manuscript of the 1,170 page book but disagreed with Cullen's interpretation of why Cinchona or Peruvian bark was good for malaria.
Cullen said is was because ' it's action depended on its tonic effect on the stomach'.
To prove Cullen wrong he decided to experiment on himself…and discovered the first principle of Homeopathy= let like treat like.
Samuel took 'four drams of China twice daily'…'My feet and fingertips, etc at first becomes cold. I became languid and drowsy, then my heart began to palpitate, my pulse becomes quick and hard, an intolerable anxiety and trembling, prostration in all the limbs, pulsation in the head, redness of the cheeks, thirst,..these were all the symptoms usually associated with intermittent fever, all made their appearance'.
He's accidentally discovered, that the reason Cinchona (China) had worked on patients with malaria was because the substance produced the same symptoms as that the patient with malaria was suffering from.

So, what do we know about Samuel's chart?

Quite a lot.
We know his exact birth time, so his chart can be drawn correctly.

He had a Sagittarius Ascendant, making him knowledgeable, sparky, enjoying active pursuits, enjoying travel, further education and philosophy..he was also an Aries Sun sign, making him forward thinking, combative, not afraid of challenges, enjoying his 'own path'..not liking orders from others etc.
His Moon was also in Aries, so emotionally, he'd fly off the handle, then like a storm calm down after explosions…be able to not hold grudges and open with his feelings.
His Sun (using Equal House) is in the 5th, making him enjoy creative pursuits, good at performing, not shy…

If you understand Astrology and you know a lot about Samuel's temperament, you'll know that his chart ably describes his character.

He has Jupiter retrograde in Virgo in the 9th house, a lovely placement for Jupiter (it's natural home) = enjoying travel. Well, he certainly did that as he moved house. He was born in Meissen in Saxony, then lived in:
Leipzig
Hettstedt
Dessau
Gommern
Dresden
Lockwitz
Leipzig (again)
Stotteritz
Gotha
Georgenthal
Molschleben
Pyrmont
Hamburg
Mulhausen
Gottingen
Brunswick
Wolfenbuttel
Konigslutter
Altona
St Jurgen
Molln,
Machern
Eilenburg
Wittenburg
Dessau (again)
Pfarrgasse-Torgau
Leipzig (again)
Kothen
Paris where he died age 89 in July 1843
Since travel in those days was by horse and cart and a journey to Paris from Kothen would take 14 days at least, we can tell this is a man who's not afraid to travel as Aries is fearless and Sagittarius loves to travel.

Further information on Samuel and other Aries people are in my book 'How to Appreciate an Aries' published by Dodona/O--books for release Sept 2013 http://www.o-books.com/index.php?id=100&p=578

Brief History of Astrology

Astrology dates back to our earliest records of human learning. It is the precursor of astronomy as for many years they were one science. The mainstream of astrology has its source in an area which was also the beginning of Western civilisation: the Middle East.
Here man laid down his hunting weapons, abandoned the nomadic life-style, and settled down with plough and scythe to develop an agricultural society. This settled society brought more leisure and a disciplined government and with that came organised religion with temples and priests. 1.

Ancient Priests
The earliest references to astrology lie with the Babylonians in 2000 BC. The priests of the kingdom of Babylonia, the present day Iraq, made the discovery which set the pattern for the development of astronomy and the zodiacal system of astrology that we know today. For generations they meticulously observed and recorded the movements of the heavenly bodies. Finally, they discovered, by careful calculation that in addition to the Sun and the Moon, five other visible planets moved in established courses through the sky.

These were the planets that we now call Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.

These priests lived highly secluded lives in monasteries usually adjacent to towers from which they could observe the night sky. One major advantage of living next to the Persian Gulf was the extremely clear skies and they managed to make their calculations without telescopes or any complicated equipment. Every day they observed the movements of the planets and noted down any corresponding earthly phenomena from floods to rebellions. Very early on they came to the conclusion that the laws which governed the movements of the stars and planets also governed events on Earth.

Gods
In the early stages the stars and planets were regarded as being actual gods. Later, as religion became more sophisticated, the two ideas were separated and the belief developed that the god ‘ruled’ the corresponding planet. Gradually, a highly complex system was built up in which each planet had a particular set of properties ascribed to it. This system was developed partly through the reports of the priests and partly though the natural characteristics of the planets. Mars was seen to be red in colour and was therefore identified with the god Nergal, the fiery god of war and destruction. Venus was the most prominent in the morning, giving birth as it were, to the day. She therefore became the planet associated with the female qualities of love and gentleness, as well as with the function of procreation. At first their observations only centered around their community but as time went on, between 600 and 300 BC this system became more precise and during this period individual horoscopes were cast.

Astrology Today

Fast forward to today where astrology is a mixture of light relief or firm belief and hopes for the future and is practiced in every country in the world. What I will be discussing here is western astrology. Each system is based on how the planets are ‘viewed’ from our place on earth.

The belief is: “As Above, So Below”. That we are all part of the same wonderful cosmos, we all exist because of each other, not in spite of, and therefore are influenced by and are of influence to, all parts of our ‘world’.
Astrology is based on a map of the heavens on the day, time and location of someone’s birth. The map is constructed by calculating the position of the various planets in the sky. This map or birth chart is like your finger-prints. It never changes. People get a bit confused about astrology and think the birth chart ‘predicts’ everything to do with someone’s life. That’s not actually true. The birth chart illustrates what sort of character you are, your potential. What happens to your life (in my opinion) is not fated, more the result of choices you make. The predictive bit of astrology is determined by calculating where the planets will be in the future in relation to where they were when you were born. A sort of astral comparison.

Chart of the Heavens

Planet: A celestial body that orbits around the Sun.
Star: With the exception of the Moon and the planets, every fixed point of light in the sky is a star, including the Sun. However in astrology we use the term ‘planet’ for all the bits we use. So if you catch me calling the Sun, a planet, that is an astrological term, not one used in astronomy.

If you imagine that the centre of the chart (the gold star in the picture above) is the earth, the map is made up of where each planet was, in each segment of the sky, in relation to our place on earth. We use a circle to plot the positions which is now made 100% easier by using computer programmes. In the ‘old days’ the movements and placements of the planets were made by educated men and the information kept in a book called an Ephemeris. Nowadays, all you need to do is use a good computer programme or the wonderful Swiss resource Astro.com

Each chart includes the 10 planets: The Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto and each planet represents a different area of life.

The most important parts of a chart are the Ascendant, the sign and location of the Sun and the sign of the Moon.

The Ascendant
How you came into the world

(in above example in sign of Sagittarius)
The Ascendant is determinded by the actual time of birth, so you need to know the accurate time to get the correct Ascendant because it changes sign every two hours. So someone born at 10am will have a different Ascendant from someone born at 12pm. In astrology we classify the Ascendant as is being the ouside part of you, the bit people meet first. The image we want people to see in fact the image people will see. Your Ascendant is what you display at a party, or to your parents, or when you’re under pressure. It’s the coat you wear, the glasses you see the world through, how you viewed the world when you came into it. Your beginning. As you were being born, the most important part of your chart was in a sign signifying how you ‘came into the world’. It could be in the sign of Virgo making you discriminating, analytical and prone to wanting to categorise things. Or it could be in the sign of Cancer, wanting to ‘feel at home’ , loving Mum, wanting protection and financial security. Each sign has a different meaning.

The Sun
Rules who you are

(in above example Sun in Scorpio in 12th house)
The Sun represents who you are. The ego. That which identifies you. Most people know what Sun sign they are, even if they don’t know anything else about astrology. In a birth chart the sign and location of the Sun describes how you will tackle life. Will you be fearless or timid, creative or shy? It also describes what you will find interesting and how you will express your personality.

The Moon
Rules the emotions and instincts

(in above example Moon in Capricorn)
The Moon in Astrology represents how we feel about things. If the Sun is who we are, and the Ascendant is how we project ourselves, then the Moon is how we respond emotionally to things. In reality the Moon changes sign every 2 days or so, and if you ever want to do an interesting experiment, read the headlines of the daily papers and pay attention to the Moon signs. On an Aries-Moon day, more people are fighting, on a Cancer-Moon day, more about the home , on a Pisces-Moon day, maybe weird and wonderful and inexplicable mysteries. Try it, you’ll be suprised.

I’ve covered, briefly, some starter information about astrology and a few points about the birth chart or horoscope.
